After a surprise encounter with a wild grizzly bear at Yellowstone National Park, we packed up and headed to Idaho. Our trip took us from Yellowstone to the Grand Tetons National Park. We were immediately greeted with a gorgeous mountain landscape reflecting perfectly from a mirror lake. With plans to spend time in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, our trip through the Grand Tetons was limited to views from the car and certain lookout points along the way.
In Jackson Hole, we scrambled to find curbside parking for our 19 foot vintage camper in tow. Jackson Hole was bustling by Covid-19 social distancing standards, but we found plenty of parking near Snake River Brewery where we found a table on their outdoor lawn. There we got a happy hour snack before walking downtown to see the famous antler arches.
Getting from Jackson Hole to Mike Harris Creek Campground in Idaho was a drive over Teton Pass. It was a short shot, but grueling towing more than a ton up and over the pass. Immediately on the other side we arrived in Idaho and campsite #3 at Mike Harris Campground.
Mike Harris Campground is nice and clean for a fairly primitive campground. There is no electricity, but there is shared water pump and clean, several surprisingly non-odorous composting toilets. It has a very remote feel and virtually no light pollution at night. The mosquitos at Mike Harris were horrendous for a southern family thinking mosquitoes are the worst in the south, and apparently there are bears in the area. In a parking lot at the entrance of the campground there were lots of cars with mountain bikes, so apparently there are some nice trails onsite.
